Web 2.0 Inside D2L - iMeem Music Playlist

The next installment in the video series of using Web 2.0 tools inside Desire2Learn takes a look at how to embed a music playlist into your online course. Also check out this previous post with more info about making free playlists using iMeem, Seeqpod, Songza, and Pandora.

Why use this? There's plenty of reasons; here's three for starters.
  • 1) Finding some music that is relevant to your course subject matter can be a good way to start a discussion thread about what the song is trying to say or how it relates to a topic in class. Works great with history classes, political science, and the like. Can't think of any music that's relevant to your accounting class? Time to get a little creative, isn't it?
  • 2) Including a playlist of music you like in your faculty profile is a good way of letting your students learn a bit more about you. You might find some common ground (or not).
  • 3) During the first week when you have your students introduce themselves, have them create a playlist of their three favorite songs. These playlists can be embedded in a discussion posting which would be a good way for the students to tell more about themselves.

I have a bit of a social media addiction and I was so happy to find Hypster.com. It lets me use my music playlists on all my profiles even my music blog. As an independent artist I look for any way possible to promote my music and this site is amazing and offers a great artist profile section. Unlike many of the sites, http://www.hypster,com is comletely free!

Ed2Go is NOT Higher Education

For several years now I have railed against the use of ed2go courses when they are affiliated with a college or university. During my time on the Minnesota Online Council I was especially adamant against the listing of the ed2go courses at the MnOnline website as though they were endorsed courses from a member institution. Another Switch from Blackboard to Desire2Learn

As many of you know, I am always interested in the comings and goings of the LMS wars. Who's leaving Blackboard and what are they going to? I rarely have to ask the opposite question - who's migrating to Blackboard from a non-Blackboard platform - because it almost NEVER happens. The latest one to catch my eye was the University of Surrey in the UK. Here's their press release about choosing D2L . Nowhere in the release do they mention what platform they've been on - but it doesn't take much effort to find this on their current website: So, yes, this is another school switching from Blackbeard to Desire2Learn. Distance Education and Reauthorization

The Committee on Education and Labor in the U.S. House of Representatives passed the "College Opportunity and Affordability Act" (H.R. 4137 ) on November 15, 2007. This means we are nearing the end of the long road leading to reauthorizing the Higher Education Act (HEA). The House committee bill now joins the bill passed by the U.S. Senate (S.1642) in July 2007.
